Over the years, Kamgrad has grown carefully and steadily to become one of the leading companies in Croatia’s construction sector. Its long record of successful operations has established Kamgrad as a company known for professionalism and meeting deadlines, employing specialists with strong technical and organisational expertise. Over the past 40 years, this has resulted in the delivery of more than 400 buildings and numerous other civil and structural engineering projects.
Kamgrad’s headquarters originally consisted of two sections: office space for administration and management, and accommodation for construction workers.
As the company continued to expand, the accommodation section was converted into office space in 2016. Our role was to design the HVAC systems for the part of the building being refurbished. We were involved from concept design through commissioning. The objective was to reuse as much of the existing plant as possible. Retaining the existing boiler room reduced the investment cost, while cooling for the refurbished section was provided by a new energy-efficient chiller.
In 2023, we were commissioned to prepare design documentation for the reconstruction and extension of the administration building – Building A. The extension provides 1,500 m² of new space, and the brief included assessing whether the existing heating energy source could be replaced with a more efficient system. Until then, the building had been heated entirely by a gas-fired boiler plant, while the investor wanted to switch to a renewable and more efficient heat source. We prepared an alternative HVAC solutions study covering water-to-water and air-to-water heat pumps, as well as a VRV heat-recovery system. We also recommended improvements to the efficiency of the existing system. The most cost-effective heating and cooling concept was selected and designed using VRV Heat Recovery, Sky Air and radiator-heating systems. The documentation was delivered through concept, main and detailed design stages, including the bill of quantities for construction.
