A state-of-the-art biomass heat production plant was officially opened in Kanfanar on 18 March 2025, marking a major step towards more sustainable and environmentally responsible production at the TDR factory, part of the BAT Group. The €4.7 million investment will reduce the factory’s carbon emissions by as much as 65%.
In addition to its environmental benefits, the new plant delivers clear energy advantages. The biomass boiler plant will supply as much as 80% of the factory’s total energy demand from renewable sources. The investment also supports the circular economy by using wood chips from the local timber industry to produce energy, reducing waste and improving energy efficiency without generating residual material for landfill.
Istria County has pursued green policies for many years, aiming to achieve energy self-sufficiency and comply with EU targets for phasing out fossil fuels by 2050. The Kanfanar factory has set the ambitious goal of becoming carbon-neutral by 2030, in line with global trends in decarbonisation and environmental protection.

We also actively monitored construction through professional and design supervision, up to the successful technical inspection and official opening.
