Reconstruction work on the stadium on Kranjčevićeva Street in Zagreb is in full swing, and the project is taking shape as a modern sports complex day by day.
Latest progress on site:
- North stand: The structure is complete and installation of the roof structure is under way.
- South stand: Installation of load-bearing columns and construction of the main structure are progressing.
- West and east stands: Reinforced-concrete works and installation of prefabricated elements are under way.
- Areas beneath the stands: Fit-out of changing rooms, press rooms and technical facilities is under way.
The new stadium will have 11,163 fully covered seats and a 105 × 68 metre pitch meeting UEFA Category 4 requirements. The project also includes a heated hybrid pitch, modern LED lighting and contemporary infrastructure for athletes, media representatives and spectators.
Particular emphasis has been placed on sustainability and energy efficiency. Plans include a 1 MW rooftop solar power plant and vertical gardens on the south façade. The project also includes a new 6,300 m² public square with more than 150 trees, while the car park will provide over 400 spaces.
Tering prepared the main and detailed designs for the stadium’s HVAC systems, focusing on energy-efficient and sustainable solutions that will provide optimal indoor conditions while reducing the building’s overall energy consumption.
Under the current schedule, work is expected to be completed by the end of 2026, with the first matches potentially taking place in the 2026/27 season. Once complete, the stadium will become the temporary home of GNK Dinamo and NK Lokomotiva, enabling demolition and construction of the new Maksimir Stadium, which is planned for completion by 2030.
The reconstruction of the stadium on Kranjčevićeva Street is a key step in modernizing Zagreb’s sports infrastructure and will contribute to the urban regeneration of the wider area in addition to serving its sporting function.
